Scholarship

 

Newcomers and Neighbors of Seymour and Oxford offer two scholarships, the John T. De Barber Memorial Scholarship and the Continuing Education Scholarship Award.  See details for both on this webpage including links to download the applications.


John T. De Barber Memorial Scholarship Award

 

John T. Barber was the first Seymour serviceman killed in Vietnam. The Newcomers and Neighbors of Seymour and Oxford established the scholarship in his memory to be awarded to qualifying high school senior(s) residing in the towns of Seymour or Oxford.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
 

1. The applicant must be a deserving high school senior residing in the towns of Oxford or Seymour.

2. The applicant must demonstrate achievement, imitative, and financial need pursuing his/her chosen career choice.

3. The applicant must be accepted for enrollment in a degree or certificate program in an accredited college, university, academic or vocational school of higher education.

4. A completed application form must be submitted to your high school guidance office (to be forwarded to the NNSO Scholarship Committee) no later than May 1, 2006.

Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. They will be judged individually by grade point average, financial need, community service and motivation or work experience in a chosen career, and the student essay. In fairness to all, the names of the applicants will be withheld until after the recipients have been selected.

Continuing Education Scholarship Award

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:


1. The applicant must be a nontraditional-aged female student residing in Seymour or Oxford.

2. The applicant must be accepted for the enrollment in a degree or certificate program at an accredited college, university, academic or vocational school of higher education. Please include a copy of your acceptance letter for fall 2005.

3. The applicant must demonstrate scholastic achievement, imitative and a clear career goal.

4. A completed application form must be received by our scholarship committee no later then May 1, 2006.

Applications will be reviewed by our scholarship committee and will be judged on the above eligibility requirements and an essay completed by the student. In fairness to all, applicant names will be withheld from the judges until recipient has been selected.
